According to Gregory Thorkelson, M.D., from the department of gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh, it’s probably for the best if your toilet visits didn’t exceed 10 to 15 minutes. As a matter of fact, you should only be visiting the toilet if you have an urge to poop. When this urge happens to be missing, your body may be tempted to strain or push in an attempt to get your toilet business done. All that straining could lead to the development of hemorrhoids or piles.
