1. Coffee

Bad news for the coffee lovers! If you’re the one whose day never begins without a cup of coffee, then it’s going to be real tough for you. Caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee stimulate the release of the hormone ‘gastrin’, which is responsible for gastric acid secretion. Hence, coffee can promote GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease if taken on an empty stomach. But still, if you’re too much dependent on it, you can have it with milk or cream as the fats will help in counteracting the negative effects.

2. Taking oral anti-inflammatory drugs

Anti inflammatory drugs like Aspirin, ibuprofen, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are all a big no on an empty stomach. Paracetamol which isn’t usually counted as a non steroid, is also prohibited on an empty stomach. These drugs have potential side effects and can increase gastrointestinal risk for ulceration, bleeding, and perforation of the stomach or intestine, which can be fatal. Hence, always take them with food. And you don’t even need to have a full fledged meal, a few crackers would be enough.

3. Drinking alcohol

It is known to all of us that alcohol get absorbed more fastly on an empty stomach. But, the shocking fact is that it’ll be absorbed twice as fast! This is equivalent to taking an intravenous shot of alcohol. So, it’s better to avoid them. If you’re trapped in a situation where you can’t really refuse to drinks, opting for chilled non-carbonated drinks will be better as they are absorbed slower and you won’t be counted as rude. It would be even better if you could grab a little sandwich with butter before the drinks.
